Interview
Ricky, we spoke at the end of the 2019 season covering the growth of your game then. What have you been working on with the technical part of your game over the past couple of months?
“I’ve been focusing in the weight room; at school every morning I’m getting a lift in. I’m also working with my QB coach. We are working on my motion, keeping it clean, and on the extension of my front leg keeping it more bent instead of over extending with my front knee.”
What have you been doing to expand your knowledge and understanding of the game since the 2019 season ended?
“I’ve been going back watching last year’s film. I’ve been reading their defense and seeing what I could have done better. We will play a lot of those same teams this year; I’m getting a better feeling of how defenses play us.”
Do you watch film on other quarterbacks, if so, who are you watching and what are you seeking to learn?
“The main one I watch is Sierra Canyon’s quarterback (Chayden Peery). I’m watching him to see how he makes his reads.”
A couple of weeks ago, I got to see you spin it at a 7v7 tournament. How is your game coming along playing 7v7 with ProWay?
“I feel like Proway is a way to stay in-tune and to stay on top of my game. It is great reading defenses without a rush and it is keeping my motion tight. Playing with ProWay is allowing me to stay in shape and prepare myself for the season.”
Do you guys have any upcoming tournaments?
“Yes. We have one on Sunday at Morgan Hill and then I will be at a University of San Diego Junior Day event the following weekend.”
Which camps are you planning on attending this offseason?
“I know I am going to the Elite 11/The Opening Regional and to a Rivals camp in two weeks.”
Ricky, it was great catching up with you. Good luck at the 7v7 tournament and with the upcoming camps.
“Thank you.”
