The recruiting rich continued to get richer over the weekend when Ohio State pulled 4-star running back J.K. Dobbins out of Texas.
A lot of hearts were broken in the Lone Star state on Sunday when Dobbins picked the Buckeyes over roughly 20 other offers including ones from in-state powers TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Houston, and Baylor. The 5’10”, 195 pound, back emerged as a “must get” prospect after his sophomore season when he ran for 2,230 yards with 37 scores adding nine receptions for 161 yards with two additional touchdowns.
During his junior season with La Grange High School, Dobbins did the near impossible besting his 2014 numbers with 2,741 yards off 288 carries with 35 scores. He continued his all-purpose back trend with six passes caught for 93 yards. He even completed 4 of 12 passes for 101 yards with one more touchdown.
The recruiting process from offer to commitment was a fast one for Dobbins and Ohio State. OSU offered on Feb. 17 receiving Dobbins commitment on March 6. The announcement was made public on Twitter when Dobbins posted, “After much consideration and thought… I want to announce that ive [sic] committed to THE Ohio State! #GoBucks!”
Ohio State now has 13 verbal commitments to their 2017 class highlighted by two 5-star recruits in Shaun Wade and Josh Myers and seven 4-star recruits that includes Dobbins.
