The Buckeyes laid claim, for now, on the best wide receiver haul in the 2017 recruiting class when five-star prospects Trevon Grimes and Tyjon Lindsey committed on Monday.

Grimes has shot to five-star status largely on off-season camps, Division-I offers, and potential. The 6-3, 202 pound, St. Thomas Aquinas standout has been limited on the field over the past two seasons to six receptions for 158 yards with two scores in 2014 and 27 receptions covering 496 yards with seven touchdowns in 2015.

The Florida talent committing to Ohio State is little surprise, back in April Grimes declared Ohio State his leader.

Lindsey, like Grimes, has blazing speed in the 4.4 range but his Las Vegas counterpart is more the shifty type that will drive defenses crazy in the slot at the next level. Grimes has been one of the more highly regarded wide receivers in the nation over the past two years working a connection on the Bishop Gorman playing fields with another OSU commit, quarterback Martell Tate. Lindsey pulled down 34 passes for 884 yards with 15 scores as a sophomore and then topped his best with 45 receptions for 1,117 yards with 14 additional scores in 2015.

Lindsey and Grimes share another commonality, both could have essentially played for any college of their choosing. The pair came together for a Bleacher Report commitment video revealing their school via a game of dodge ball. One by one, each college was eliminated represented by players wearing various T-shirts with a school logo on the player’s chest getting tagged out during the game. Grimes and Lindsey were the final two players, wearing Bleacher Report shirts, turned their back to the camera, turning around to reveal Ohio State with a banner while donning OSU baseball caps.

With the addition of Grimes and Lindsey, Ohio State has outdistanced themselves from the rest of college football with six players ranked as five-star recruits. The next closest is Alabama with three. Alabama does have 12 verbal commitments from four-star recruits to Ohio State’s 10. The Tide has 21 total commitments to the Buckeyes 18.

Per 247Sports, the top two wide receiver recruits in the nation, Donovan Peoples-Jones (Cass Tech) and Joseph Lewis (Hawkins) remain uncommitted. Clemson and Notre Dame each have two Top 20 commits at receiver or tight end. A push could be made by other schools to overtake OSU’s current hold on the top receiver haul, but there is also room for Ohio State to add to their riches with another top target in the passing game.
