The recruiting process between Nevada Class of 2017 defensive tackle Haskell Garrett and Ohio State was akin to speed dating or perhaps a perfect match. The Buckeyes offered the Bishop Gorman talent on Feb. 2, one day before National Signing Day for the 2016 class, landing him one week later.
Haskell jumped on the recruiting scene as a sophomore coming up with 79 tackles, 20.5 tackles for a loss, 11.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and two pass broken up. During his junior campaign, he continued to apply the pressure with 53 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, and six sacks.
Offers for the 6’1”, 290 pound, talent have come in from everywhere with at least 15 reported offers from the likes of Penn State, Oregon, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, Washington, Utah, Texas A&M, UCLA, Louisville, Nebraska, and Texas A&M among others.
Haskell made the announcement official on Twitter posting, “Blessed and Happy to announce that I’ve verbally committed to Ohio State University. #Buckeyes.”
The Buckeyes pull talent from all over, but Bishop Gorman has been among the best of the best winning overall 14 state titles including seven consecutive since 2009. The majority of the Gales schedule each season is traveling throughout the region to take on top programs in California, Utah, and the likes. OSU is certainly pulling in a battle tested talent in Garrett.
The Buckeyes are already off to a great start to their 2017 class with 11 verbal commitments highlighted by 5-star recruits DB Shaun Wade (Jacksonville, FL) and OL Josh Myers (Miamisburg, OH). The class is already deep with five 4-star talents in the mix as well.
