Jackson Lawley does it all for Tulsa Noah as he helped the Jaguars to a 7-5 record while starring at five different positions. During his junior season, Lawley racked up 44 total tackles including 17 for a loss with 10 sacks, 22 quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles. On offense, he caught 13 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns.
This 6’3″, 195-pound, playmaker has tremendous technique and athleticism while also possessing good size and a high football IQ. The Class of 2022 recruit is already drawing interest from colleges and is working hard both on the practice field and in the weight room to earn his first offer.
Not only does Lawley star on the gridiron but also in the classroom where he holds a 3.0 GPA and enjoys history.
In an exclusive Recruiting News Guru interview, I caught up with the Tulsa Noah star to talk about his junior season and get an update on his recruiting process.
Interview
Jackson, how would you grade your individual during your junior season?
I would grade my performance an 8 out of 10. There were plays I should’ve made that I didn’t and there’s always room for improvement no matter what.
How many positions do you play for your team?
I play five positions, including quarterback, defensive end, strong safety, punter, and wide receiver.
What are your strengths on the football field?
My strengths are being very football smart and being able to get through stronger players using the technique.
Did you receive any individual honors in 2020?
I got the NHFA (homeschool) All-Star award my sophomore year and I was named Newcomer of the Year for Tulsa Noah.
What do you like most about playing offense?
I like that offense can be played in many ways, smash-mouth and Air Raid being common. I think that I can excel at both.
What do you like most about playing on defense?
I like being able to show the opposite team that we came to play football, because most of the time they see a homeschool team and think they’ve won the game already until we get on defense and get to smack them around a couple of times.
What type of challenges did you face in 2020?
I’ve had tendinitis in both of my knees and I haven’t had a problem with it until 2020. I thought that it was in my head and that I didn’t need to get treatment.
How did you overcome this challenge?
I started going to my chiropractor to get treatments on my knees. I was going two times a week but since my knees have gotten better, I’ve only had to go one time a week.
Is there an NFL player that you try to model your game after?
On offense, I love Julio Jones. Especially with both of us being 6-3 and playing wide receiver. I love watching him route up people. On defense, I try to be the best defensive end that I can be. I don’t really try to model my defensive game but I’ve been told that I play like Brian Burns.
What do you like most about playing at Tulsa Noah?
What I like most playing for Tulsa Noah is that everyone on the team is like a brother. There’s never any off the field drama. Also, all of the coaches are like dad figures. They’re never the type to get in your face and scream, but they’ll pull you aside and teach you step by step what you did wrong.
Do you play any other sports in high school?
I’ve played with an AAU basketball team every summer but my last year of high school basketball was last year.
What is your favorite subject in school and why?
History is my favorite, because I like being educated on what people did in the past how people lived and stuff like that.
Who is your biggest role model and why?
I would say my dad is my role model. He never freaks out in tough situations. He’s always calm. Also, I really-really look up to Damian Lillard. I love how he came from nothing and he made himself who he is and after big plays you never see him talking trash or getting in peoples’ faces or anything.
Are you receiving interest from any colleges?
Coaches have followed me on Twitter and I’ve gotten a bunch of emails and letters from Bethel and Southwestern.
What is your GPA?
I have a 3.0 GPA.
What are your goals for the offseason?
I want to gain as much weight and muscle as I can and this offseason and I want to work at one position. I haven’t spent a whole offseason working on one position and I want to see how big of a difference it will make.
Thank you for your time today.
Thank you, sir.
