Oklahoma RB Keith Ford leaving Sooners program, A&M rumored as landing spot

In late March Oklahoma announced the suspension of running back Keith Ford for breaking team rules and academic violations. On Wednesday Sooners head coach Bob Stoops confirmed Ford was seeking a transfer from the program.

Ford was expected to be an offensive juggernaut for the Sooners in 2014 until a broken leg upended his season after just three games. In those three games the Cypress, Texas native rushed for 369 yards on 63 carries with five touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 140 yards with another score.

In his absence true freshman Samaje Perine took off leading the Big 12 in rushing with 1,713 yards breaking the FBS single-game rushing record against Kansas compiling 427 yards on 34 carries.

The Sooners backfield is loaded with depth although injured depth. Alex Ross, Rodney Anderson, Daniel Brooks, and Joe Mixon are all expected to challenge for carries in 2015. Mixon sat out the OU spring game and Anderson missed time with a sprained MCL.

The rumor mill had been swirling that Ford might be the odd man out. According to 247Sports, Ford is eyeing Texas A&M as a potential landing spot.

Ford has a redshirt season to burn giving him two seasons of eligibility left in his college career should he have to sit out the 2015 season due to transfer rules.
