Oklahoma continues to put on a show with their 2017 recruiting class landing one highly rated recruit after another. The Sooners recruiting boundaries have been far reaching stretching into California for a second time landing weak-side defensive end Addison Gumbs on Wednesday.
Gumbs worked his way into four-star status after a junior season spent in the opposition’s backfield. Through 10 games played for Stellar Prep, Gumbs had 74 tackles, 23 sacks, 30 tackles for a loss, and 10 quarterback hurries.
The high stat totals and off-season camp circuit parlayed the Oakland (CA) product into one of the more highly rated recruits on the west coast. Before committing to the Sooners, the 6-4, 220 pound, talent had 27 reported offers on the table. Oklahoma fought off top Pac-12 schools like UCLA, USC, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Oregon State, Washington State, Arizona State, and Cal along with SEC schools like Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Tennessee for the pledge.
Gumbs posted his decision on Twitter with a simple note reading, “Blessed to say I’ve committed to Oklahoma!! #SoonerSquad17.”
OU now has 19 verbal commitments coming in from seven different states. The class is impressive with 13 players ranked as four-star talents (247Sports). Gumbs joins Santa Margarita Catholic tight end Grant Calcaterra as OU commits from California set to be in Norman in 2017.
