With 28 offers on the table for Class of 2017 cornerback Trajan Bandy, the race was on to secure a commitment from the highly prized recruit. On Sunday, the Sooners got their man when the Miami area talent verbally committed to Oklahoma.
Bandy, listed at 5’10”, 180 pounds, cemented his place on college recruiting boards during his junior season helping Columbus High School to a 13-2 record making it to the Florida High School Football Playoffs semifinal round before falling 30-17 to Flanagan. Season stats for Bandy are incomplete, but through eight games he had racked up 20 tackles, 15 solo, a tackle for a loss, one pick-six, and at least five interceptions. The Sooners are getting a punishing tackler on the outside and a corner that plays the ball in the air well with a knack of well-timed hits jarring the pass loose from hopeful receivers.
On Feb. 17, Bandy listed out Top 10 including Michigan, South Carolina, Maryland, Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, and USC with Tennessee at that time being his No. 2 and Oklahoma No. 1.
The Sooners 2016 recruiting class closed strong on Feb. 3 landing at Top 20 talent haul with 19 total signees. The 2017 class does not have that 5-star talent attached to it like linebacker Caleb Kelly to the previous group, but every single verbal commit is considered a 4-star per Rivals laying the foundation for another great class.
