Oklahoma State lost one and then gained one on the recruiting trail securing a verbal commitment from Texas defensive end Nelson Mbanasor on Tuesday.

Mbanasor’s stock has taken off in recent weeks after drawing attention during the 2015 season with Hendrickson High School (6A). The Pflugerville area talent helped the Hawks to a 9-3 record last year coming up with 46 tackles and eight sacks earning first team All-District honors.

College coaches like what they see in Mbanasor’s next level potential. The 6’3”, 250 pound, lineman has 20 reported offers on the table with Colorado, Tulsa, Southern Miss, UTSA, Air Force, Louisiana Tech, Indiana, Texas Tech, and Kansas all offering in the month of May. The Cowboys offered on May 19 getting Mbanasor’s commitment on May 24.

Mbanasor’s decision was posted on Twitter reading, “Let’s go!!! I’m committed! I’m a COWBOY!”

If the Mbanasor name sounds familiar in Oklahoma football circles, that is because Nelson is the younger brother of Oklahoma defensive back P.J. Mbanasor (6-1, 189). P.J. is a sophomore cornerback with the Sooners.

OSU lost a verbal commitment from in-state three-star offensive tackle Adrian Wolford on Monday to Texas A&M. With Mbanasor’s commitment, OSU is back to 10 verbal commitments to the 2017 class.
