Oklahoma State took a surprise verbal commitment on Thursday accepting in-state Wagoner strong safety/quarterback Malcolm Rodriguez.
High school football fans in the state of Oklahoma are well aware of Wagoner. The Bulldogs have been unstoppable during the 2016 season posting a 13-0 mark thus far with a showdown against Oologah for the 4A state title on Friday night. On offense, Rodriguez is more a running quarterback orchestrating a Wildcat-RPO offense. On defense, he is a Johnny on the spot opportunistic player able to cover deep and come up to stop the run with hard hits. Season stats have not been released on the Bulldogs, but suffice to say Rodriguez is all over the field making plays.
The recruiting process was a quick one between Rodriguez and Oklahoma State. The 5-11, 190 pound talent received an offer from the Cowboys on Thursday committing on the same day. OSU fans found out about Rodriguez’s offer with a post reading, “Blessed and thankful to receiver my 2nd D1 offer from the Oklahoma State University!! #pistolsfiring.”
Rodriguez’s other reported offer came in from Wyoming.
247Sports rates OSU’s 2017 class No. 29 in the nation, No. 2 overall in the Big 12. Rivals sees the grouping at No. 30 with one four-star recruit, Chuba Hubbard, and 16 three-star prospects.
