The Cowboys staff have already started adding pieces to their 2018 class just days after wrapping up the 2017 haul. A third verbal commitment was accepted on Monday when Texas tight end Nic McTear pledged to Oklahoma State.
McTear was the second leading receiver for Heritage High School during the 2016 season. The 6-4, 220 pound, target pulled down 15 passes for 246 yards with four scores in stats posted through nine games. The numbers were on par with his sophomore season when he secured 11 passes for 221 yards with three trips to the end zone.
The Frisco area product had reported offers from Iowa State, North Texas, Toledo, Tulsa, and Colorado State before his commitment. The Cowboys offered on Jan. 28 leading to his announcement posted on Twitter reading, “Excited to say I’ve verbally committed to Oklahoma State #PistolsFiring.”
With four-star Texas quarterback Spencer Sanders anchoring the 2018 class already, the staff has a big piece of the puzzle to work around on the offensive side of the ball. Linebacker Blake Barron is rated as a two-star by 247Sports. 247Sports has not rated McTear yet.
