Ability coupled with great upside mixed with a dynamic collegiate offense, that is the pairing of quarterback Trever Jackson and Lane Kiffin’s offense. Saturday afternoon, Ole Miss landed the four-star 2024 quarterback out of Orlando’s (Fla.) Jones High School giving promise to the Rebels’ future offensive success.
Jackson has seen his star rise along the recruiting trail after a solid junior campaign with the West Orange Warriors. Exposure camps, spring practices, the 7-on-7 tournament circuit, and summer workouts allowed college scouts to see more of Jackson’s talents leading to over 30 offers.
In the end, a longstanding relationship with coach Kiffin helped lure Jackson to Oxford.
“It was crazy,” Jackson said. “My brother was recruited by Lane Kiffin at FAU; they kept an eye on me. They got a commit but after that he decommitted. When he did that, that was after the Elite 11, they kept calling me. As soon as he decommitted, they started talking to me.
“I spent the weekend there at the end of July, it was great. I love the way their offense is so explosive. Coach Kiffin, the way he uses his QBs and develops them for the next level, I know it will be a nice fit.”
The final four for Jackson included Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and UCLA. Jackson detailed how he made his decision and what propelled the Rebels to the top of his list.
“Probably a week or two ago, I was sitting back looking over my options offensive wise, that is when I started leaning more towards them,” Jackson stated. “It came down to the culture, coach Kiffin, me knowing him before and having that experience with him. I know I will be in good hands with coach Kiffin off my brother; I knew it was going to be a good fit.”
The Ole Miss staff has known Jackson is heading their way for a couple of weeks.
“I texted them on Aug. 5 or in the second week in August, somewhere in there,” Jackson shared. “I texted coach (Charlie) Weis (Jr. – QB) and coach Kiffin after that. They called me after my text, we talked, and they talked to my parents.”
Jackson spoke about his feelings verbally committing to the Rebels.
“It is a good release off my shoulders, now I can focus on trying to win a ring,” Jackson said. “It is a blessing to know I have a chance to be great at the next level, and the next level after that. Not a lot of kids can go SEC-Power 5, it is pretty cool.”
The July trip to Mississippi was on Jackson’s dime. Ole Miss will pick up the tab on his official sometime this season.
“I will probably visit during a game week on my bye week,” Jackson stated.
Jackson is the sixth four-star committed to Ole Miss in the 2024 class, the 22nd overall addition in this recruiting cycle.
