Ole Miss gains 4-Star CB Commitment from Texas’ Jaylon Jones
Written by Ryan Wright
SEC West foes watch out, Ole Miss is at it again putting together another consensus Top 15 kind of recruiting class. Taking a big step towards that highly ranked class in 2016 was the verbal commitment of cornerback Jaylon Jones.
Jones is a do everything kind of cornerback listed at 5’11”, 182 pounds, with 4.40 forty-yard dash speed. The Allen High School star is a prized national recruit with offers from over 20 programs including Auburn, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Arizona State, Pitt, Mississippi State, TCU, Baylor, Duke, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas Tech, and USC to name a few.
Playing at an elite level in Texas high school football, Jones has stood out among the crowd since his breakout sophomore season when he recorded 102 tackles. He followed that success up with a 117 tackle season with 3 tackles for a loss, 5 pass breakups, and 1 interception last season.
Jones’ Allen, Texas squad has at least six other players expected to go D-I at season’s end with quarterback Seth Green already committed to Oregon, linebacker Jakob Yandell and cornerback Anthony Taylor committed to Texas State, and Jones to Ole Miss. The recruiting world is waiting to see where teammate Gregory Little commits. The 6’5”, 320 pound, talent is widely considered the top tackle in the 2016 recruiting class. Little was a one-time commitment to Texas A&M but decommitted from the Aggies in mid-July.
The Rebels now have 18 verbal commitments to their 2016 recruiting class that includes 5-star Shea Patterson (IMG Academy) and seven 4-star recruits. Jones is the second secondary commitment joining South Grand Prairie’s (Grand Prairie, TX) Greg Eisworth.
