The reach for Mississippi’s recruiting classes continue to grow out of the normal areas getting what amounts to a surprise commitment from Virginia three-star quarterback Alex Faniel on Thursday.
Faniel played for Glen Allen High School during the 2015 season completing 76 or 109 passes for 1,147 yards. The upside is a 70 percent completion percentage, the unfortunate is Glen Allen suffered through a 1-9 season. Faniel is raw but big and mobile, a pro-style quarterback, but has a cannon for an arm.
The news went public on Twitter with Faniel posting, “Very excited to announce my commitment to my new home in Oxford Mississippi. #HottyToddy.” The post was accompanied by a statement:
Faniel’s recruitment was regional based before committing to the Rebels. Virginia Tech, Temple, East Carolina, North Carolina State, and Virginia all offered Faniel.
The Rebels now have five verbal commitments to their 2017 recruiting class.
