Out of Los Angeles’ Crespi High School, a next level kind of Ivy League fit is being developed in Austin Wisdom. The 2024 linebacker worked over Angelus League teams coming off the edge, walling off his side, and tracked down ball carriers going the other way last fall showcasing the skills. With college camps ramping up in June, more scouts will get to see what Wisdom (6-0, 210) can do this summer.
A fixture as an outside backer with time spent on offense at fullback, H-back, and tight end, Wisdom is getting extra work in this spring.
“I’m working on leveraging, zone coverage, man coverage, and my footwork and hand work,” Wisdom said. “I’m working on the basics.”
Running a base 4-2 defense, Wisdom spoke about his strengths as an outside backer.
“The strengths to my game are my hustle to the ball, my drive to the ball, stopping the run game, and taking on blocks,” Wisdom shared. “Those are my best skills. My zone coverage has gotten so much better; that is one of my strengths now.”
Carrying a 4.3 weighted GPA, D-II and D-III programs have identified Wisdom as a next level player with more interest coming his way. Portland State, Sac State, Fresno State, and UCLA head coach Chip Kelly stopped by the Celts’ Encino campus this spring. More teams will get to see those skills on display in the coming weeks.
“I am going to a Rising Stars camp on June 2 at Cal Lutheran, on June 3 I am going to UCLA’s Rising Stars camp, and on June 24 I am going to the UConn’s mega camp,” Wisdom stated. “I am planning more for the month of July, La Verne invited me to one of their camps, they invited me personally.”
Wisdom continued, “I was invited by college coaches to the National Football Showcase in Irvine and there is another showcase camp in Dallas, Texas, July 4-16 that I plan on attending.”
Off the field, Wisdom also competes in track and field events for Crespi running the 100, 200, and 4×1 while throwing the shotput. Interests outside of football, Wisdom is an Eagle Scout, a licensed scuba diver, welder, rock climber climbing Yosemite and Mt. Whitney, and is a martial artist.
