Dominating against one’s peer group is always a measuring stick of future success on the amateur football fields. Tack on skills, frame, productivity, and in the case of Matthew Brady (6-3, 178), arm talent, the state of Illinois has a future recruit collegiate teams will be fighting over in the coming years.
The 2027 dual threat is learning the system at Central Catholic (Bloomington) with an opportunity to receive varsity snaps before season’s end.
Working out of the Illini Prairie Conference, Central Catholic is steamrolling the competition this year out to a 7-0 record. No one is cheering on for the Saints’ continued success more than Brady.
“We run a Spread,” Brady stated. “We spread out the defense, and we bait them. We run something over and over and then throw over their heads the next play.”
Taking on freshmen and junior varsity squads, Brady is seeing his overall traits increase on the field.
“I think a skill that has improved is being a good teammate and leader,” Brady shared. “My ability to see the field has grown a lot. With the way we run our offense, that is a huge thing to focus on.”
Brady continued covering the strengths of his game, “I’d say being a leader, my arm strength, my speed, and I can lower a shoulder if needed.”
Next-level scouts see Brady’s future projection wasting no time setting an early recruiting foundation.
“I went on game-day to Western Michigan last week,” Brady said. “I have three more possible visits, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and Northwestern. I’m not really sure if that works with my schedule because of the playoffs; I need to be there for my team. My coach wants me to play scout team against our starting defense. If I do well, hopefully I get some snaps in the playoffs.”
The hang in Kalamazoo was fruitful for Brady.
“It was my first one (game-day visit),” Brady stated. “I had never been on one. I figured it would be more talking with coaches, but it was not as much as I wanted. The game was great. They run the same offense; that was cool to see.”
On the possibility of visiting the Eagles in Ypsilanti, Brady shared his interest in making that trip.
“I don’t know much about them other than they are a MAC school, and they are a big school,” Brady shared. “I am happy to visit them. I am at the beginning of the recruiting process, game-day visits are a very exciting thing for me in general.”
