A proverbial passing of the guard is taking place this offseason at one of Iowa’s top high school football programs. Lewis Central (Council Bluffs) has won 35 games over the past three seasons with just five losses. Anchoring the middle of the Titans offensive line has been All-State center Nathan Beyenhof. When the 2025 schedule kicks off, a new era begins with Hunter Infanger leading the way.
The Titans ran their 2024 record to 12-2 with Infanger (6-1, 255) getting quality varsity snaps.
“We are an inside zone team, mainly, for our run game with a tiny bit of RPO (run-pass option),” Infanger said. “At center, we are responsible for calls. Our offensive coordinator relies on the center for calls, getting the Mike point, and getting our linemen in position to run the play the right way.”
Preparing for the varsity action as a sophomore, Infanger hit the weight room hard reporting a 335-pound bench max, 495-pound squat, and 535 on deadlift. The physical strength showed against 4A competition.
“I improved with my leverage and movement,” Infanger stated. “I’ve played about every position on the o-line; they focused on getting me better at center this season. I am getting my snaps better, I dialed that down, and getting movement off the ball against the defensive tackles. I was getting that leverage and movement that is needed.”
Infanger continued covering the skills he brings to the trenches, “I think my pass set is very quick. I am also really strong; I can stand up defenders, even if they are big, and I can out quick the fast guys staying on them the whole time. I get a lot of movement because of my strength.”
Offseason goals have been set.
“My biggest goal, we normally have a packed o-line, besides our center, he played at a young age and was a three-year starter, chemistry will be big with new set of o-linemen,” Infanger shared. “I’ve been organizing workouts with our o-linemen to get better this offseason. I want to build that chemistry to be successful next season.
“I have improved my speed; I got my 40 down to 5-flat. My strength is another thing: I will continue to improve on that and get bigger this offseason.”
Recruiting interest is already picking up for the Class of 2027 prospect. Big Ten power Michigan hosted Infanger for a game this fall.
“It was great,” Infanger said. “Michigan, they had a really big atmosphere. The stadium is huge. They have so many fans. It was loud, which I liked. The tradition is huge there; you can tell walking around seeing everything. The players are also amazing. It was great seeing them warming up. That was a great experience.”
The Cowboys also hosted Infanger for a game in Laramie.
“That was also really good,” Infanger shared. “I was really impressed with the level of dedication their whole staff had getting ready for the day; I got there early. They showed really good hospitality. I was able to talk to them a little bit, it was really nice. There is also a really good view there.”
In addition to Michigan and Wyoming showing early interest, so are the Cyclones.
“The relationship with Iowa State is growing,” Infanger stated. “The main person I am talking to there is the o-line grad assistant, coach Jackson Scott-Brown. He’s the one I have been with personally; he was great.”
