If the 2015 season was the starting point for Damoray Devoe, how high might his production level grow? During his sophomore season with Allendale, Devoe was all over the field leading the state of South Carolina with 83 tackles from the cornerback position. In addition to his incredibly high tackle stat line for a corner, he also added 15 pass deflections along with four interceptions; all stats verified on MaxPreps.

The Tigers tore through the season posting a 12-2 mark with Devoe putting time in on offense as well. Initially he lined up at wide receiver but ended up with 19 carries for 352 yards with two scores and went 1 of 2 in the pocket tossing a scoring pass.

Devoe has the makings of a next level corner, safety, or wide receiver listed at 5’10.5”, 153 pounds. Interest has not really picked up yet for the super sophomore, but an upcoming college camp circuit could help put him on the recruiting map with area programs.

In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Devoe to go over his sophomore season, his offseason workouts, and received a tentative camp schedule.

Interview

Damoray, you posted a fantastic stat line putting time in all over the field. How many different positions did you fill in for during the 2015 season?

“I started off at receiver, cornerback, and on special teams. I was also the second team quarterback and ended up starting three games at quarterback when our starter got hurt.”

This was your first year at the varsity level and you are playing four different positions. What was the varsity experience like for you?

“It was tough at first, the game speed was faster, but I caught up.”

Was the experience fun or stressful for you?

“It was fun. I wanted to play corner and quarterback. It was a lot of fun for me, I like playing both sides of the ball.”

Where all will you line up during your junior season?

“Quarterback, cornerback, and special teams.”

Where on special teams?

“I did kickoff returns last year and should do that again this year.”

Which position do you prefer playing, quarterback or cornerback?

“I’m an athlete. I can play both sides of the ball but I like cornerback better. I’m a running read-option quarterback primarily.”
