Oregon Completes Big Haul at The Opening, Land Two 4-Star Recruits
Written by Ryan Wright
Oregon’s recruiting efforts towards the 2016 class has been slow and methodical yielding great returns. On Thursday the Ducks won the day landing in-state linebacker/defensive end LaMar Winston and cornerback Jared Mayden.
Mayden is one of the more highly recruited players in the nation with 45 reported offers. The 6’0”, 190 pound, Texan had teams like Arkansas, UCLA, Alabama, Florida State, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Florida, Oklahoma, and in-state powers Baylor, Texas, and Texas A&M seeking his services at the next level.
On June 24, Mayden’s 17th birthday, he announced his Top 7 schools listing in alphabetical order, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, and UCLA.
Winston comes to the Ducks as one of the top players in the state of Oregon. The 6’4”, 200 pound, athlete could line up at defensive end or outside linebacker depending how he fills out his big frame once on campus.
Big schools like USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Michigan, Arizona, and Arizona State took runs at Winston but the prevailing thought was he was heading to Oregon all along.
The Ducks have been impressive with their verbal commitments. Of the 14 pledging to Oregon eight are considered 4-star recruits. A nice even split of seven defenders and seven offense players have been added thus far.
