The Beavers picked up a big recruiting battle win among Pac-12 teams on Monday with the addition of Los Angeles cornerback/athlete Jeffery Manning.
Manning started popping up on recruiting boards with Bellflower High School during his junior season as an all-around athlete. Manning carried the rock 11 times for 80 yards with a touchdown and secured 29 passes for 311 yards with two more scores on offense.
During the off-season, Manning transferred from Bellflower to Cathedral in Los Angeles helping shore up a Phantoms squad that has started the 2016 season 8-0. The 6-1, 182 pound, athlete has moved back to cornerback full-time coming up with 28 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and has defended four passes this season.
Oregon State won the recruiting battle for Manning’s verbal commitment over 16 other reported offers. Teams extending a scholarship included UCLA, Utah, Washington State, UNLV, Nevada, Hawaii, Iowa State, Fresno State, BYU, Boise State, and San Diego State. The Bruins initially earned Manning’s commitment on June 22 but he decommitted by the end of July.
Manning posted his commitment on Twitter writing, “Proud to announce that I am officially committing to Oregon State University. #BuildTheDam17.”
Rivals has Oregon State as the No. 36 ranked recruiting class in the nation while 247Sports rates the class No. 53, seventh in the Pac-12.
