Oregon State landed one of their biggest recruits for the 2016 class to date when California safety Shurod Thompson committed to the Beavers on Monday.
Thompson jumped on the recruiting map helping Pittsburg High School (Pittsburg, CA) to a 10-3 record in 2014. The 6’1”, 185 pound, athlete came up with 51 tackles, 3.0 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries with six passes defended and three interceptions. In the offseason Thompson transferred from Pittsburg to Liberty High School in Brentwood, California.
In April the 4-star recruit verbally committed to Cal but decommitted in early June. Recruiting offers continued to roll in with 12 offers reported. Schools having offered Thompson include Arizona State, Boise State, Washington State, San Jose State, Colorado State, Arizona, UCLA, and USC. The recruiting win for the Beavers comes off an official visit the Brentwood area native made to the University of Oklahoma over the weekend.
Thompson helps pull together a strong secondary in Oregon State’s recruiting class. Michael Johnson (Mt. San Antonio College), Emony Robinson (Gresham, OR), and running back/safety Christian Wallace (Sealy, TX), along with Thompson, make a very strong nucleus for defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake to work with once on campus.
