College football recruiting in the Mountain West is perhaps the most unique in the nation, and the look at the committed quarterbacks to the 12 teams within the conference tells the tale. With Pac-12 poachers roaming the recruiting trail, MWC teams typically hang back to see the top players bypassed by their Power 5 brethren and then make their move ahead of National Signing Day. As evident, the early signing period begins on Dec. 20 running through the 22nd, yet only five quarterbacks are committed to MWC programs.
However the recruiting process plays out, the MWC always has gunslingers at the ready capable of pushing the ball up and down the field in wide-open offenses. The top-rated quarterback recruit currently attached to an MWC is Serra (Gardena) three-star Doug Brumfield to UNLV. Brumfield completed 60 percent of his passes during his senior season throwing for 1,478 yards with 10 touchdowns while rushing for another 444 lighting up the board with five more scores. Colorado State has the second-highest rated pro-style field general in Griffin Brewster followed by Utah State with Yaro Duvalko and Gavin Beerup headed to Wyoming. Fresno State has the only dual-threat commitment picking up Logan Fife after California flipped Calabasas three-star quarterback Jaden Casey in mid-October.
Top to Bottom MWC Look at Recruiting
Air Force leads the way in total commits with 23, but matching star ranking with verbal commits, Boise State and UNLV lead the way each with 11 commits and all are three-star prospects. Nevada and Colorado State each have eight three-star players followed by San Jose State and Hawaii with six each. Fresno State (6), Utah State (5), and Wyoming (5) have some work ahead in filling in the class, but not as much as San Diego State and New Mexico with three commits and just one pledge respectively. So far, none of the 12 teams have wrangled a four-star senior per 247.
