There are all sorts of different kinds of players that hit the gridiron but there are few true difference makers like Amaree Williams (6-5, 215). Working over Florida teams for The Benjamin School (Palm Beach Gardens), Williams makes his mark on both sides of the ball as an edge rusher/outside backer and receiver. The gridiron productivity has earned Williams four-star recruiting status and over 30 offers in the backpack with a top 13 adding to his recruiting excitement.
Gearing up for a revenge game against Cardinal Newman in the opening round of the playoffs, Williams spoke about his junior campaign.
“Spectacular,” Williams stated. “I felt coming in that there was something to prove on the offensive side of the ball. We didn’t have a QB; we got a new one. We got Jayden Vega. I have been showing out on both sides of the ball.”
Williams continued, “I feel like on offense, every ball in the air is mine. Last year I would go get it, but it is a different mindset this year. I think of it as a rebound, and I go get it.
“On defense, I feel like I have gotten a lot better at manipulating players. We are all human; being an edge rusher, I am using different moves and using my body language to manipulate players. I do the opposite of what I am showing. I am manipulating the way they are thinking. I am being a student of the game.”
On Nov. 2, Williams dropped his top 13 listing Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and USC.
“I talk to all the schools in my top 13, all of those schools,” Williams shared. “Those schools are sticking out on a whole new level.”
The next level feedback from coaches on Williams’ 2023 campaign was also shared.
“I’d say all of the teams that I have gone to see love how long I am,” Williams stated. “Every time I visit, they bring up how long I am. They love that I am a long-armed edge. I have an 80-inch wingspan which is like 6-8. I’m a real long guy, I can use that to my advantage.”
Teams across the country have welcomed Williams to their campus this fall.
“I’ve been to USC, Georgia, I will be at Kentucky this weekend, and I have been to all the Florida schools – Miami, FSU, and Florida,” Williams said. “Pretty much every week this fall I have been somewhere.”
The Trojans got Williams at the Coliseum last weekend for the showdown against the Washington Huskies.
“It was amazing,” Williams exclaimed. “My cousin lives in Cali; I was able to spend time at the school and he showed me around. He was showing me the little spots. I had an amazing time.”
The historic home of the Trojans made an impression.
“The stadium, I thought it was the coolest thing,” Williams said. “It is different from the generic stadiums. The stadium is like a crater; it is in the ground. I loved the school. I saw the dorms and I saw the life of a student there. Seeing everyone smiling and laughing shows they like being there.”
The Hurricanes showed out getting a double overtime win against Clemson with Williams in attendance.
“Miami being in Florida, with the Florida visits I normally don’t stay as long,” Willams shared. “I drive up and back the same day. The Clemson game, that was a very good game. That game nearly went into three overtimes. I loved it there. I am looking forward to going back.”
An extended stay in Athens helped Williams enjoy the time with the Bulldogs even more.
“For the Georgia visit, we stayed for two days,” Willams stated. “It was an amazing visit. I was on the sidelines with coach (Chidera) Uzo (-Diribe) until they blew the whistle for kickoff. I felt the family dynamic. There is not much else to say – Georgia is Georgia.”
While in Lexington to see the Wildcats take on the Crimson Tide, Williams will be back in a home environment.
“My dad went to Kentucky,” Williams shared. “He is a Hall of Famer there. Being at Kentucky is always a good feeling, a nostalgic feeling. My dad went back and coached there and got his degree there. Being at the stadium, it will be nostalgic.”
As a perspective legacy recruit who could follow in his father Moe Williams’ footsteps, Amaree was asked what will be important to experience during this trip.
“Something I want to see, honestly I feel Kentucky always has something new for me,” Williams said. “I’ve been there so many times; I grew up there. I lived there for two years. I have been to that stadium more than a few times.”
Not scheduled yet, but more visits are upcoming for the four-star talent.
“I was supposed to take an Ohio State visit, but I don’t think we are doing that,” Williams stated. “We’ll plug in two more the weeks after the Kentucky visit.”
