Another big season in the pocket for Enterprise High School (Redding, Cali.) is bringing more recruiting attention to Jaylen Johnson (6-2.5, 205). The dual threat has been giving his all on the field come Friday nights helping carry his squad into the playoffs. The big numbers and extra athleticism shown on the defensive side of the ball has Pac 12, SEC, and Big 12 squads watching.
The Hornets have posted 39 touchdowns on the board this season, Johnson is responsible for 33 of those scores. By cannon or wheels, Johnson is getting the job done throwing for 1,562 yards with 19 touchdowns while rushing for 940 yards off 89 totes with 14 trips into the end zone in stats posted through nine games.
Running a run-pass option offense, Johnson spoke about the season.
“We started off good, now we are trying to get ready for the playoffs,” Johnson said. “We are 4-6, but we are going into the playoffs 0-0.”
Johnson continued talking about what he’s putting on film this fall, “Being able to extend the play with my feet and arm, and making plays happen when people think I can’t.”
The biggest improvements in his skillset were also covered.
“Being able to escape pressure, reading defenses, and fitting the ball into tight spots,” Johnson stated.
In a 39-35 win for Enterprise, Johnson did it all against Orland.
“Orland was my best game because I played defense and offense,” Johnson shared. “I threw for four or five touchdowns; that was a good one.”
*Johnson threw for 281 yards completing 18 of 29 attempts with five touchdowns posted. He also filled the stat sheet with four stops, three solo, while notching a PBU.
The offer sheet includes Florida International, Hawaii, Morgan State, Florida A&M, and Norfolk State with Power Five interest growing.
“Oregon State, Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma, that is a big one, they have been sending mail, Cal, Stanford, Tennessee, and West Virginia have been showing interest,” Johnson said.
Pac 12 visits are being set.
“I am going to the Oregon State game for the Oregon game (Nov. 24), and I will probably go to Stanford and Cal,” Johnson stated. “Those schools are closer to me.”
Johnson broke down his interest in each program and why he’s ready to take in the game day experience.
Oregon State: “I like the atmosphere and coaches there; they treat you like family. The town and the school, and they have a new stadium. I haven’t been there to see the new stadium yet; I am looking forward to that.”
Stanford: “Coach (Preston) Pehrson (dir. recruiting) really likes me. They have been showing a lot of interest. I have been talking to coach Pehrson on Twitter.”
Cal: “The last time I was there for their camp, I performed well. I took pictures when I was there, they told me I was atop their 2025 list. I am excited to go back, hopefully I will get an offer from them.”
