Looking at Tyler Travers, one would immediately expect the 2025 prospect to have a gun for an arm but there are layers to his game. Most QBs Travers size (6-5, 205) are statues in the pocket taking shots as a sitting duck, but the Mount Juliet High School (Tenn.) talent has wheels. A foundational season was produced during Travers’ sophomore run with a breakout season in process this fall. As Travers shows off the skills, college programs are eager to get the rising star on campus.
Working the ball around the field for the Golden Bears last fall, Travers walked away with first team All-Region and Offensive Player of the Year honors. Travers threw for 1,525 yards with 19 touchdowns hitting 100 of 131 attempts and rushed for five scores using his 4.66 40-yard dash speed.
The Golden Bears’ offensive set and routes he is hitting was covered.
“We are more of a Spread with a running element,” Travers stated. “Our receivers are running seams, digs, some corners, posts, and outs.”
The wheels and headiness are aspects to Travers’ strengths as a quarterback.
“My ability to improvise and put the ball where it needs to be in big moments are strengths of my game,” Travers shared.
Asked how the valuable time on the field last season has helped him prepare for the 2023 season, Travers replied, “It has given me more experience to be prepared for my junior season. I don’t have to worry about my first game starting or a big game, I have played in those already. It has helped me with preparation.”
Travers spun it for college coaches at Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Pitt, and Arkansas State camps over the summer. Offers have come in from Eastern Kentucky, Marshall, and UAB.
The teams showing interest were shared, “Pitt, Vandy, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, and some others. But those are the main ones showing interest.”
A handful of game-day visits are in the works for Travers.
“Right now, the only one set in stone is Pitt for the Cincinnati game (Sept. 9),” Travers stated. “I will probably be going to Memphis, Marshall, Vandy, and Virginia Tech as well.”
Ahead of taking in the River City rivalry game, Travers spoke about his growing rapport with the Panthers’ coaching staff.
“I’ve been messaging them a lot since Aug. 1,” Travers said. “They are really nice people, and very caring.”
Moving up from 5A to 6A, Mount Juliet has started the 2023 schedule off 2-0 with wins against Cane Ridge (31-28) and Hunters Lane (56-12).
