The game of football can come down to a chess match with one of the keys to winning the game is creating mismatches exploiting the other team’s weaknesses. Another game plan college coaches take to the field on any given Saturday is to enforce their will, especially on defense, giving the opposition no choice but to try to come up with a counter solution to win the contest. With Class of 2018 all-around athlete Bryan Addison, college coaches are in one of the best dilemmas possible trying to figure out if the California talent should terrorize defenses as a wide receiver or be a head hunting tough as nails safety knocking away hopeful passes while knocking top running backs on their can at the point of impact.
Addison is another one of those guys that more than meets the eyeball test and then backs it up on the gridiron. Junipero Serra High School posted a 7-4 record in 2016 primarily using Addison at safety where he racked up a stat line of 53 tackles, three picks, seven passes defended, and one forced fumble earning four-star status. Addison was not used often in the passing game but when he did he was truly explosive giving statistical nerds like myself a moment of pause. The stat line was complete with four receptions covering 56 yards with two touchdowns.
The chain moving target that can also give defenses a fit in the red zone or be an offense stopping safety… what will one lucky college program do with Addison? So far 11 offers have been placed on the table for the 6-4, 185 pound, standout with teams like USC, Nebraska, Army, Illinois, Oregon State, Washington State, Utah, and Oklahoma just wanting him on the roster and then figure out where to best utilize his talents.
In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I sat down with Addison as the exposure camp circuit is in full-swing getting a rundown on his off-season plans and recruitment to date.
