PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The recruiting dominoes are lining up for Jamal Streeter Jr., and once a couple of big ones fall an avalanche will ensue. Streeter (6-1, 175) is a two-way performer for Port Charlotte High School (Fla.) with scholarship opportunities at receiver and as a defensive back. One official is in the books with ACC and Big Ten interest popping ahead of his senior year.
When the early season tape is distributed from Streeter’s 2023 campaign, next level scouts will see his focus over the summer months.
“I’ve been working on getting out of my breaks, my comebacks, my comeback routes, I comeback a lot; I’ve gotten really good at my comebacks,” Streeter said. “I’ve gotten really good with my three steps, making sure I am getting out of my breaks, and my backpedal is quicker. This offseason I’ve just been working on my abilities on the field and being versatile.”
Holding offers from Florida A&M, Florida International, Indiana, South Dakota, Tennessee-Martin, and Toledo, an idea of what scouts are seeing in Streeter was shared, “Most are offering me as a receiver, but I was offered by Indiana as a DB. Some offers are at receiver, some are as a DB.”
Asked if he has a preference where he plays at the collegiate level, Streeter replied, “No, it doesn’t matter. I can play both. It doesn’t matter to me. Either or, I’m good at both.”
The Cavaliers are liking what they are seeing in the 2024 prospect as an offensive threat.
“Virginia; Virginia is really big on me,” Streeter stated. “I talk to coach (Adam) Mims (WR); he wants to see my first two games of the year. He said if I show improvement from last year they will come around with a committable offer. That would be big for me. I have been getting better this summer aiming for that offer.”
One program racked up some charges on the company credit card bringing Streeter to town this summer.
“I took an official visit to South Dakota (June 9-11),” Streeter said. ” It was pretty good. They showed a lot of love. They treated me like they really wanted me; they are high on my recruitment right now.”
The lines of communication with Streeter and the Coyotes remains highly active.
“We talk, the coaches and I talk every day,” Streeter shared. “They let me know that I am wanted there and that I am needed at their school.”
New squads are letting their interests known.
“I’ve been in contact with Georgia State recently, and Wisconsin, I’ve been in contact with them,” Streeter stated.
If all goes to plan, Streeter could be taking in a Cavaliers game at Scott Stadium in the coming weeks.
“I might take an unofficial to Virginia because coach Mims wants me to get up there to see the campus and everything,” Streeter said. “He wants me to get up there to see a game; I’d love to go there.”
