A big target with possession receiver hands and speed that can stretch defenses, that’s what college coaches are seeing in Jordon Gidron (6-2, 170). Ridge View High School (Columbia) got their developing 2026 talent on the field last fall against varsity 4A South Carolina competition laying the groundwork for an explosive 2023 sophomore season. Two offers are already on the table with more teams learning about Gidron this summer thanks to college camps.
In between track season and spring workouts, Gidron also got extra reps on the 7-on-7 circuit with Team Take Over. Gidron shared what he’s been working on with his game.
“My route running, my catching; I’m just trying to get better and work harder,” Gidron stated.
The 7-on-7 tournaments pushed Gidron competing against top talent.
“I think it helped a lot,” Gidron said. “The more reps you get the better you get. We traveled a lot playing good competition; that helped me work on getting open and running routes. All of that will help me this season.”
The speed is already there. Running the 100, 200, and some 4×1 relays for the Blazers, Gidron posted a 10.91 personal best in the 100 this spring. The skills and great upside have brought offers from Coastal Carolina and UNC-Charlotte. The Gamecocks are one of the squads showing interest, hosting him this spring.
“I went to a South Carolina practice,” Gidron shared. “I watched a spring practice and took a tour around their facilities. Last year, I went to some of their games too.”
Gidron returned to South Carolina on June 2 for a camp and competed at a Kennesaw State mega camp on Tuesday. Performing in front of the Gamecocks’ coaches brought more attention Gidron’s way.
“It was a good camp,” Gidron stated. “I got a lot of good looks, and I made some good catches; they moved me up to play with players above my grade.”
The big plays at the camp brought positive reactions from South Carolina receivers coach Justin Stepp.
“Coach Stepp remembered me from spring practice,” Gidron said. “He high fived me after a couple of my catches.”
More camps and scholastic 7-on-7 college held tournaments are coming up for Gidron.
“I am looking at Tennessee and UNC for camps, maybe App State or ECU,” Gidron shared. “Those are the main ones right now. On Thursday we had a tournament at Tennessee, we played other high schools. We are supposed to have tournaments around our area coming up. I know we are going to USC (South Carolina) for their 7-on-7 tournament.”
After making the early camp rounds, more interest is coming Gidron’s way.
“I spoke to a Vanderbilt coach this weekend; he took my measurements,” Gidron said. “UNC asked me to come to a camp. Georgia’s receivers coach (Bryan McClendon) followed me on Twitter. After Tennessee’s 7-on-7 tournament, I talked to a Tennessee coach and got his information.”
