Quick Q&A with San Juan Hills DE Tim Newman
San Juan Hills High School defensive end Tim Newman is preparing for a standout senior season. The soon to-be three-year starter tore up opposing California offenses for 81 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and 9 sacks in 2014. Newman earned First-Team All-South Coast League honors but more importantly stoked his college recruiting. Pac-12, Mountain West Conference, and Ivy League schools are waiting to see how the 6’2”, 230 pound, tackling machine handles his senior season.
Before Newman sets out to push the Stallions into the playoffs we put him through another kind of interview, a “getting to know you” Q&A hoping to learn more about one of California’s best sleeper recruits in the 2016 class.

Tim, what is your favorite movie?
“I’d say, I really liked Interstellar, it blew my mind.”
Who is your favorite actor?
“Arnold Schwarzenegger, because he’s just huge. I don’t have a favorite actor.”
What is your favorite TV show?
“Breaking Bad.”
What is your favorite book?
“Of Mice and Men.”
What is your favorite type of music?
“I like Reggae a lot.”
Do you have a favorite musician or group?
“No, I just put it on and listen to whatever.”
Do you have a favorite song?
“No, I’m not huge into music. I just go with whatever is on and enjoy it.”
I have a feeling I know where this one is going… What music do you listen to getting hyped?
“Usually the weight room has music playing. The kids on the team will put stuff on. The stuff is normally pretty good. I don’t have my own that I play.”
What hobbies do you have outside of football?
“I go to the beach a lot. I go dirt bike riding. If there’s snow on the mountains I’ll go snowboarding.”
What is your favorite type of food?
“Mexican.”
Do you have a favorite game system?
“Xbox 1.”
Any favorite games on Xbox?
“Madden and the Call of Duty games.”
What is your favorite subject in school?
“I like AP U.S. History. That is a super interesting class and Math. I’m really good at math.”
Who is your favorite all-time athlete?
“Troy Polamalu.”
What is your favorite holiday?
“The 4th of July because its summertime and summertime is one of the best times of the year.”
If you could be a superhero which superhero would you be?
“Oh man, I’d be the Flash.”
Why the Flash?
“I feel like it’d be really cool to be super fast and go from one city to another in a second. That’d be really cool.”
Do you have a favorite professional sports team?
“The Jacksonville Jaguars. I lived there for six years. That was my team growing up.”
