The Razorbacks have been one of the hottest teams on the recruiting trail of late landing three four-star prospects on Friday. The streak continued Saturday with the addition of Alabama 2024 three-star cornerback Tevis Metcalf.
The Parker High School prospect shared details on the early part of his recruiting process with the Razorbacks.
“From the very beginning I was talking and getting on Facetime with coach (Dominique) Bowman (CB),” Metcalf said. “He told me I have an offer. He told me he likes the way I work and play, and that he would love for me to come play for him. Since then, we’ve had constant communication. They are always hitting me up letting me know I am loved, and that they want to have me.”
When head coach Sam Pittman talks about the Hogs being a family, the addition of Metcalf firms up the notion. As part of the 2023 recruiting class, Arkansas signed Tevis’ older brother TJ Metcalf. Tevis was asked about TJ’s influence on his commitment.
“With my brother, I got to play with him last year,” Metcalf stated. “The two of us playing together and the chemistry that we would have verses me playing with another DB I don’t know was a factor. I get to play with someone I trust and know. He told me he wanted me to come, but he wanted me to make my own decision. He wanted me to go through the process the way I wanted to.”
Asked what started to put the Razorbacks out ahead of the competition, Metcalf replied, “Every time I go there, when I sit with coach Pittman, I love coach Pittman. He keeps it real. He lets me know he is 100 percent locked in with me. He asked, what are you waiting on?”
Metcalf continued, “Every time I go down there, I like to chill. It feels like my hometown.”
The coaching staff under new defensive coordinator Travis Williams has a plan for Metcalf at corner and nickel.
“They want someone who can really play any position,” Metcalf said. “They want a freshman early enrollee that knows a lot about football who can get out there and play. Arkansas sees me covering the slot, big tight ends – anyone; that is why they are recruiting me. They want someone who is physical and can get the picks.”
Arkansas’ staff received the good news last week.
“I committed when I went up there on Saturday for the spring game,” Metcalf shared.
Co-defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson was the first to find out Metcalf wanted to be a Hog.
“He said you just made my day,” Metcalf said. “He said welcome to the family.”
Metcalf shared his feelings on verbally committing to Arkansas.
“It was big,” Metcalf stated. “I get to be coached by one of the greatest (Marcus Woodson); he and my dad went to Ole Miss together. He is an old family friend.”
The foundation for a great 2024 class has been set in April for the Hogs. Arkansas entered the month with three commits then started popping adding linebacker Julius Pope, quarterback KJ Jackson, defensive end Charleston Collins, corner Jaden Allen, and receiver Courtney Crutchfield. The grouping now includes nine commits with seven four-star prospects.
Arkansas landed Metcalf in a recruiting battle with Auburn, Colorado, and Georgia Tech.
