NAPLES, Fla. – Each turn in the cycle is the next big year in sports, but the 2023 season for Aaron “AJ” Williams will be monstrous. The 2024 gunslinger out of Orlando’s (Fla.) Timber Creek High School has built up a following this summer working through college camps up and down the east coast. To add some extra push up recruiting boards, Williams just competed over the weekend at the FBU camp in Naples.
Catching up on a whirlwind summer schedule, Williams (6-1.5, 200) slowed down for a couple of minutes to give an update.
“I’ve been to around nine camps,” Williams said. “I’ve been to FAU, FIU, the Marist Mega Camp in New York, I just got back from Columbia, Cornell, and Princeton, and we’ve been to Furman and Wofford. We just got back from Bethune-Cookman.”
The spots were Williams spun it best were shared, “Columbia and Wofford because of my ball placement and footwork, definitely.”
At each stop Williams gave it his all while taking in the coaching tips from college coaches.
“The offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Columbia gave me a lot of good feedback on arm angles and hand placement on the ball,” Williams stated. “The coach from Wofford gave me a lot of good accuracy tips from turning my shoulder to the power I am loading on my right foot.”
Before heading back full-time to the Wolves for preseason practices, Williams has two more possible stops.
“I am going to Lehigh, and Valparaiso or Cornell,” Williams said.
Bethune-Cookman and Furman have offered with Wofford, FAU, FIU, and Columbia among the teams showing recruiting interest.
Asked which schools he might visit this fall, Williams quickly replied, “Columbia, definitely.”
The rapport between the Lions’ coaching staff and Williams was detailed.
“It is a pretty good relationship,” Williams shared. “I am really close with their defensive coordinator (Justin Stovall) and their quarterbacks coach (Sky Mornhinweg); we talk all the time.”
