VENICE, Fla. – The hard work logged in on the offensive line for Venice High School (Venice, Fla.) is a resume builder for Matthew Peavley (6-2, 290). Part of the 2021 Indians’ state championship team and a first-team All-State selection last fall when the squad made a run to the 4S state title game, next level squads are liking what they are seeing in Peavley. Three offers are down, and interest is on the rise.
Beyond the size, Peavley has been putting the effort in lifting the weights to be that line mover.
“My bench max is 440, my squat is about 560, and my clean is about 270,” Peavley stated.
Working on quicker feet and snapping, Peavley will get moved around the line on special packages this season.
“I will mostly be at guard, but on some plays, they will bump me to the other side or on a jumbo package I will be at tight end,” Peavley said.
Eastern Kentucky, Bethune-Cookman, and Charleston Southern have offered with new interest coming Peavley’s way.
“I’m receiving interest from a lot of the Ivy Leagues,” Peavley stated. “I have heard from Navy and Air Force. Mercer came by this morning, Western Kentucky has been here, and there have been a bunch of other schools here as well.”
A trip into Pioneer Conference territory was taken this spring to see the Wildcats.
“I went to Davidson for a day to watch them practice,” Peavley shared. “I will probably go to Eastern Kentucky this summer.”
Family ties in the Richmond (Ky.) area plus a growing bond with Colonels’ staff is a draw for Peavley to Eastern Kentucky.
“I have been talking mostly with coach (Erik) Losey (OL), there is a connection there,” Peavley said.
