Momentum on the recruiting trail can be a beautiful thing, especially for a fan base ready to embrace the upward trend. Colorado has been impressive on the recruiting trail landing one highly regarded player after another. On Thursday, the Buffaloes added another must get talent to their class when four-star offensive tackle Jake Moretti pledged to CU.
Since mid-October, Colorado has added talented recruits in three-star offensive lineman Xavier Newman (DeSoto, TX), Newman’s wide receiver four-star teammate K.D. Nixon, three-star defensive end Jacob Callier (Bellflower, CA), and now Moretti pushing the class to 22 total commits. Moretti, listed at 6-5, 285, was a really big win for the Buffaloes keeping the Pomona High School star in-state.
College coaches from across the country flocked to Arvada dropping scholarship offers for Moretti. CU went up against the normal Pac-12 foes like Cal, UCLA, USC, Oregon, and Arizona State for his commitment. The pressure was on with teams like Georgia, Florida, Notre Dame, Michigan, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska offering as well. Colorado kept at Moretti up against Ohio State. The Buckeyes secured Moretti’s commitment on July 4. OSU hosted Moretti on Nov. 4 for an official visit but the hometown team won out in the end.
Moretti’s Panthers’ squad is 10-1 on the season ranked No. 3 in the state by MaxPreps. Pomona advanced into the second round of the Colorado High School Playoffs with a 42-26 win over Bear Creek. The Panthers play Columbine Friday night.
Adding a little cache’ to Mmoretti’s commitment, he is a U.S. Army All-American Bowl invitee.
Rivals rates Colorado’s recruiting class No. 17 in the nation with four- four-star recruits. 247Sports rates the class No. 19 overall, No. 3 in the Pac-12.
