The beginning of the show started last fall for Kenyon Alston, and the spectacle will get bigger over time. Orlando Christian Prep got their 6-2, 172-pound, receiver on the varsity field watching him produce 245 yards off 20 receptions with three trips into the end zone. This fall Orlando’s Bishop Moore Catholic will get to utilize the ascending receivers’ talents against Florida competition, all while next level scouts take notice.
The transfer of schools for Alston came after spring practices, the Hornets’ style of play is something Alston will have to learn over the summer months before the fall schedule.
“I went to one of their practices, they will throw the ball a lot this year,” Alston said.
Preparing for the breakout season, Alston has been hard at work.
“I have been working on speed mainly,” Alston stated. “My hips are kind of stiff, I am trying to get those loosened up with my trainer. My hands are good, but I have been working out with my dad (Corey Alston) too on my footwork, and I have been doing DB work with Professor (Rod) Lindsey so I can go on both sides of the ball.”
Alston continued, “I am playing receiver this year, I have to ask about playing DB. I am going to ask if I can get reps at free safety.”
Part of the offseason preparations have been playing 7-on-7 with national travel team 24K.
“That helped me to see where I was skill wise,” Alston shared. “It helped with my competitiveness, and it helped me get better, of course.”
Top regional Power Five teams already have Alston on their recruiting board.
“FSU, they have been showing interest, Georgia, and the Gators’ head coach (Billy Napier) just followed me and invited me to their camp,” Alston said. “Georgia invited me to their spring game.”
Notching visits with FSU and Georgia, the backyard Big 12 program hosted Alston this spring.
“I have been to UCF a few times, they have invited me to their camp,” Alston shared. “I went to their spring practice.”
That comfortable feeling is there for Alston in the Knights’ facilities.
“UCF is always nice,” Alston stated. “They have nice people there, and a nice coaching staff. They had me tour the campus, that was after the spring practice, and I sat down in their team room. They talked about going into the Big 12.”
Alston has already begun showing off the abilities at college camps with more to come.
“I went to a USF (South Florida) camp, and I am going to a Florida Gators and FSU camp next week,” Alston said.
On the Bulls’ camp, Alston provided, “It went pretty well. I had a few catches. When I was there, I talked to a Western Michigan coach afterwards; my (WR) dad went to school there (Jets).”
