TAMPA, Fla. – The best is yet to come for Tampa Jesuit (Fla.) strongside defensive end Peter Pesansky (6-3, 287), and that upside is scary for collegiate quarterbacks and running backs. Pesansky worked over 3M Florida teams last fall showcasing the skills in the backfield with 17 sacks and 37 quarterback hurries. On April 24, North Carolina closed the recruiting process for the 2024 four-star picking up his verbal. That relationship is growing, and so are Pesansky’s skills.
Since the late-April in-person commitment to the Tar Heels, the bond has gotten stronger.
“It has gotten better,” Pesansky shared. “Ever since they reached out to me; when they first reached out to me it was the best way any coach could reach out to me. Their defensive coordinator reached out to me first showing a lot of interest, coach (Gene) Chizik, from there it took off.
“After my first visit, I was already thinking about committing. I went back for the spring game; saw how they were playing. I was on the field after the game committing. Coach Tim Cross (DL) was jumping for joy. I talked to coach Mack Brown afterwards. People were trying to say goodbye to him, and he was just talking to me.
“From then, the OV (official visit) was great. I went up in the middle of June; it was awesome. I’m talking to all the other commits. Our class is already full now; we are just getting closer and getting ready for next season.”
Pesansky may see the Tar Heels in Charlotte and Chapel Hill this fall.
“I might go up for the first game of the year against South Carolina (Sept. 2) just to watch; that’ll be a great game,” Pesansky said. “I’m probably going to the Minnesota game (Sept. 16) and maybe one more. I will go to two or three games this fall.”
Preparing for his senior season and beyond, Pesansky has been in beast mode.
“I’m trying to fine-tune the skills that I already have,” Pesansky stated. “I train at the Trench Academy; the d-line work with them, I thank them for all that I know. They taught me everything. Our Jesuit morning workouts have been from 6:00 to 8:00. I do those, eat breakfast, and then I’ve been heading over to Trench at 10:30 for a lift. I think I am doing more than most other people.”
The weight room numbers are impressive.
“On full squat I got 600 pounds, on bench press I am sitting at 385 right now, my clean is about 275, and my deadlift is close to 600 right now,” Pesansky shared.
Dropping the jaw a little further down, the size, strength and skill also comes with great speed.
“We just ran our 40s at Jesuit; I ran a 4.8 laser,” Pesansky said.
Pesansky’s junior season was filled with 99 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, one pass breakup, and one blocked punt. The Tigers open their 2023 season on Aug. 18 taking on Jones in a road game.
