A jack of all trades for Stewarts Creek (Smyrna, TN) during the 2024 season, Kingston Forbes-McQueen is making a name for himself. Putting points on the board out of the Red Hawks’ backfield on the ground, McQueen (6-0, 180) is working his way to the next level as a strong safety. The 7-on-7 season is helping McQueen showcase his skills to college coaches, and USF is the first to welcome him to campus.
The role in the Red Hawks’ defense was covered, “Most of the time we ran a Cover 2, that is our base defense with a five front. I’d roll down and play the ball.
McQueen continued, “I’m good at breaking down on the ball. I’m coming down as a strong safety; I can make plays and give the big hits. When I come down on the ball, I am coming down to make a hit. I’m ready to make a blow. I can play the ball really well.”
Beyond speed, a DB’s best asset is what they can do with their feet; another thing McQueen is covering this offseason.
“My feet,” McQueen stated. “Footwork is always key as a DB. The better your footwork, the better you will be as a DB. I’m trying to help my team; footwork, most definitely is what I am working on.”
The extra reps against top competitors in 7-on-7 tournaments with DGA is pushing McQueen’s skills to the next level.
“Playing with DGA is great,” McQueen shared. “Coach DG (Daryl Graham) is a great guy. He is helping me with my recruiting process. We went to USF on Friday; that was great. Playing with DGA is great for me. It is helping me get out there more as I play my last two years in high school.”
While in Tampa for a Pylon tournament, USF got McQueen on campus.
“That was my first college visit,” McQueen said. “It was a great experience. I want to thank USF for letting us go there as a team. I look forward to getting more visits with other schools.”
McQueen added, “It was great seeing what a D-I college looks like. You get to see what it takes to be D-I. You got to put in a lot of work, and with your academics as well. That is a big part of it.”
The Red Hawks posted an 11-2 season in 2024 with a stingy defense that only allowed 14 points per game on average.
