Come mid-October, some lucky college football program will attach a bonafide playmaker to their 2021 recruiting class. During the 2019 season, Xavier “Zay” Franks dismantled 3A Mississippi defenses securing 70 passes for 1,001 yards with 13 touchdowns. One game into his senior season, the Magee High School three-star product is picking up where he left off, and that is taking apart secondaries for fun. Against Collins, the 6-2, 291-pound, target hauled in six covering 121 yards with two scores. The talents on the field have brought 11 scholarship offers, and one of those programs have landed their difference maker.
In another trip to the RNG Lab, Franks catches us up on the 2020 season and with his recruiting process.

Interview
Zay, the Trojans rocked Collins out the gate and then the team had to postpone games for two weeks. During this hiatus, what have you been working on with your game on offense?
Doing a lot of conditioning. Players playing both sides of the ball have to be well-conditioned.
When does the team get back into the mix in practice?
We started yesterday. We play this week.
Crystal Springs (3-0) is listed next on the schedule for Friday, is that game against the Tigers still a go?
Yes, sir.
What kind of game are you expecting from their defense?
They scheme like Cover 3, but we do not know what they will come out in.
Where does the schedule go from there for the Trojans?
We go into district games after that.
Which other upcoming games are you guys hyped to play this season?
The Magee/Mendenhall game for the first time ever was cancelled; that was a big one. That game has been played for something like 70 consecutive years. Going forward, every game is a big one in district.
Let’s get an update with recruiting. Which schools are showing interest?
Western Kentucky, they hit me up the other day.
You have the 11 offers, are you planning on putting out a Top Schools List?
Actually, I’m not. I’m going in with the one school.
Franks’ Offer Sheet: Alabama State, Alcorn State, Arkansas State, Central Florida, Louisiana-Monroe, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Texas State, Toledo, Troy, and Tulane
Do you have a commitment date in mind now then?
Yes, sir. I will be announcing my commitment on Oct. 11.
Very cool. How you will announce it?
I will post my commitment on social media.
That program receiving your verbal commitment, what will they have as the complete package making that the ideal fit for you at the next level?
They plan on using me as a playmaker. I will be a playmaker with them from the jump. During my decision, I was looking for a place to be a leader in the classroom and in the football field.
Zay, I am excited for you with your commitment and look forward to finding out which lucky program is receiving your talents at the next level. Wishing you and the Trojans success this week against Crystal Springs.
Thank you, sir.
