The 2019 season was another stellar season on the college gridiron for the SEC with five teams being ranked in the Top 25 by the Associated Press at the end of the season with four making it into the top-10 (No. 4 Georgia, No. 6 Florida, and No. 8 Alabama) seeing LSU taking home the national championship. LSU wore out the competition for a 15-0, 8-0 SEC, finish wrapping up the West with Georgia taking the East off a 12-2, 7-1, run. As easy as some of the SEC teams made winning look this past season, replicating the success maybe harder in 2020 with the NFL calling.
With success at the collegiate level comes the inevitable fall as players graduate and others test the NFL waters earlier than expected. So far, 115 Division-I players have declared early for the NFL Draft with the SEC taking a 36-player hit so far. In the East, Georgia took the biggest hit with five leaving early including quarterback Jake Fromm and running back D’Andre Swift. In the West, Alabama has lost six so far, but LSU is down nine off their championship winning squad.
The big hits for some SEC teams may keep coming; the deadline to declare for the NFL Draft is Jan. 24 as the young talents need to prepare for the start of the NFL Scouting Combine on Monday, Feb. 24, and the NFL Draft on Thursday, April 23.
