When the 2023 Florida High School football season gets underway, Landen Holley (6-2, 165) is working towards starting a new era for the Eagles. The Class of 2027 QB is competing for the East Lake (Tarpon Springs) starting spot hitting the practice fields this summer with momentum behind him; UCF, South Florida, and Florida have already offered.
Interest is already growing for Holley with Miami and Florida State being in that group. The first offer was extended from the Knights after seeing Holley’s camp performance.
“It was amazing,” Holley said. “It was a dream come true getting that offer. I am talking to all their coaches. They were showing interest after last year’s camp; I was good but not great. I was kind of pushed off to the side, but this year it was amazing.”
In addition to camping at UCF, Holley also spun it at Ohio State and Florida. The performance in Gainesville was a success.
“I got offered there (Florida) as well,” Holley stated. “They told me they like me because I have one of the strongest arms they have seen in all classes. They said it was more so how coach (Billy) Napier would talk to me, tell me something little, and I would change it right away.”
Another SEC camp is on the schedule with a return to The Swamp on the agenda.
“I am going to Alabama for a camp and then I am going on a visit to Florida,” Holley said.
Holley has a mission to accomplish while in Tuscaloosa.
“I know Bama, they are a notorious program,” Holley shared. “I’ve wanted to see the campus. They have offered two other 2027 kids; I know they are not opposed to offering younger guys. I want to get my name out there to them and show them who I am.”
When the rest of the country sees Holley this fall, they will see film of him running the Eagles’ offense.
“Our offense is a mix of everything,” Holley stated. “We go Spread a lot, under center, and in the I-formation. We have a lot of plays that are high-level concepts with multiple levels. We run a high-level offense.”
Preparing for the season and college camps, Holley has been getting after it.
“Being in the pocket, that is what I have learned,” Holley stated. “I’ve always been a pocket quarterback. I have been working on throwing on the run, doing more outside the pocket, and evading defenders; I have been working on that heavily with my QB coach (Drew Phillips).”
Holley got extra reps against varsity level competition playing in 7-on-7 tournaments this spring with Team Elite.
“Playing 7-on-7 with Team Elite helped me learn and react faster to different coverages and rolling coverages; some 7-on-7 teams do some crazy stuff,” Holley shared. “Playing 7-on-7 is about learning and reacting, you will also see different coverages at the next level.”
When the college football season kicks off, Holley has some in-state teams he plans to visit on Saturdays.
“I am definitely going to the Bounce House, to a Florida game, and I might set up an FSU visit,” Holley said. “They said they want me there for one or two games.”
