The strength, athleticism, and talent in the trenches for Marion High School (Ark.) has college scouts dreaming about Carius Curne on both sides of the ball. The 6-4, 305-pound, four-star talent has 12 offers on the table with key visits popping up on the schedule in the new year with a heavy SEC lean.
Projected as a next level Power Five interior lineman, Curne is focused on improving his o-lineman skills this offseason.
“I have pretty decent hands; I will mostly work on my footwork and pass sets,” Curne said. “I am not sure if we will be a heavy run or passing team next year. We didn’t pass too much this season; I will work on that.”
One thing opposing 6A squads can count on from Curne next season, his strength will be on point.
“I maxed power clean at 300 and my bench press is 365 to 370,” Curne stated.
SEC squads are making their way to Marion for face-to-face time with Curne.
“The only person that came down so far was an Ole Miss coach,” Curne shared. “He talked about my academics and told me that he liked my film. He wants to see my senior year. I haven’t been talking to too many coaches, they are dealing with the 2024 kids. An Arkansas coach is coming down on Friday; coach Deke Adams (DL).”
More detail to the back-and-forth with Arkansas and Ole Miss was provided.
“I do have a good relationship with coach Adams; he calls to check up on me,” Curne said. “My birthday was last week; I had a conversation with him and with coach (Jai) Choudhary (player personnel) from Ole Miss.”
With coach Adams heading to the Patriots’ campus, Curne has some questions prepared.
“Yeah, I want to know how it is now since coach (Cody) Kennedy (OL) left,” Curne stated. “And I want to know about the new OC (Bobby Petrino) and what that is like.”
New interest is coming in from Curne.
“I got a letter from Oklahoma, and coaches from Clemson and Baylor have reached out to me,” Curne shared. “Oregon, their running backs coach (Carlos Locklyn), texted me. Coach Steve (Demed – GA), he’s a coach from LSU, we talk every week.”
The rapport with the Tigers in Baton Rouge is leading to a visit.
“I plan on going to LSU, for sure to LSU, and I will try to visit Tennessee,” Curne said. “I will try to see Missouri. Most definitely, I am going to see SMU again; I want to see them again as well. That is pretty much it. If other schools call and ask me to visit, I will most likely go. I will go see Arkansas too. They are one of my top schools right now.”
Curne spoke about his interest in visiting LSU, “There is something about LSU, just the letters, that makes you get excited. I like watching their o-line and d-line play. I want to go see what they are talking about. The offer came from their offensive line coach, coach (Brad) Davis; we had a good conversation. I want to go check them out.”
A gut feeling has Curne ready to head to Columbia.
“I don’t know, I have a feeling Missouri might be good,” Curne shared. “You just have that feeling that you should go check it out because you never know.”
As the interview was wrapping up, Missouri was calling.
“Guess who is calling,” Curne stated.
