No matter how tough the opponent, environment, or conditions at game time, one thing Greer High School (S.C.) has been able to count on since 2021 is the play of Ladainnian Martin. The Class of 2025 tailback busted loose as a freshman in 2021 putting his name on recruiting boards throughout the east coast. His follow up sophomore season was brilliant, and now teams are pushing for the four-star junior.
Martin (5-10, 180) raced out as a freshman producing 849 yards off 165 totes with 11 trips into the end zone. The follow up pushed Martin into that next category after collecting 1,290 yards on the ground off 185 carries with 17 scores. The all-purpose nature to his game was filled out with 12 receptions totaling 134 yards while adding two more touchdowns.
The 2023 version of the Yellow Jackets’ offensive scheme was detailed.
“We run everything,” Martin stated. “We run a Spread, one tight end, two tight ends, and we got a split back set. But we are a run-heavy offense.”
After a knee injury slowed the early part of his junior season, Martin is back taking on 4A South Carolina defenses.
“The games I have played have been good, I had a MCL injury,” Martin said. “I missed two games, but I am back. It has been good. I am feeling great. I am wearing a knee brace, but overall it has been good.”
Teams have dropped 10 offers with two Power Five teams closely evaluating Martin.
“South Carolina is showing interest but hasn’t offered yet,” Martin shared. “I think it is because I missed some games. Michigan is also showing interest.”
One of the teams pushing hard to add Martin to their ’25 class is Coastal Carolina.
“We have a really good relationship,” Martin stated. “I talk to their coaches a lot.”
Over in the SEC, the Volunteers are giving Martin great vibes.
“It is like a family with Tennessee,” Martin shared. “They text me every day, send graphics, and they send me videos of their practice every day.”
Over the summer months, Martin made stops at Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee. The next round of visits is about to begin.
“I want to get back up to South Carolina,” Martin said. “I need to get back up to Tennessee and Georgia for sure.”
The developing relationship with the Gamecocks was further detailed.
“I talk to their running backs coach, coach (Montario) Hardesty,” Martin stated. “We have a good bond. He met my dad, and he has a good bond with my dad too. I went up there for a visit at the end of July, it went really well. We played games together while I was there.”
The offer sheet for Martin includes Tennessee, Louisville, Liberty, East Carolina, Charlotte, James Madison, and Connecticut. The Volunteers were the first to offer Martin.
