Recruiting rankings are not all that they are cracked up to be. If rankings were more accurate, Denham Springs High School’s Class of 2016 defensive end Caleb Roddy would not be considered a 3-star recruit by some services. Good thing the selection committee for the 2016 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl went beyond the numbers, and as it turned out, also a great thing for the East squad.
The East squad won the 2016 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl 28-13 thanks in large part to their smothering defense. Roddy continued his terror unleashed on opposing Louisiana High Schools against some of the best players in the 2016 recruiting class on Sunday night. Roddy used his 6’5”, 245, pound size, speed, and strength to be a disruptive force in the West squad’s backfield all night long.
Roddy’s performance against elite talent in the Semper Fi Bowl was not surprising. He put a wrap on an outstanding senior season coming up with 71 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks, six pass deflections, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. Adding doubt to the curious 3-star rating, Roddy has over 30 scholarship offers on the table from some of the top college football programs in the nation that includes Oregon, Texas, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, North Carolina, Mississippi State, Houston, Ole Miss, Memphis, Auburn, and Arizona State to name a few. LSU wrapped up their in-state talent on June 8, 2015.
In a Recruiting News Guru exclusive interview, I caught up with Caleb after his standout performance in the Semper Fi Bowl getting his thoughts on the game and got a recruiting news update about his upcoming Jan. 22 official visit to Baton Rouge.
