Mixing the pass with the run, Alex Medyn (6-0, 207) is a quarterback’s quarterback showing true grit in the pocket. The Class of 2026 California prospect has used his arsenal of talents marching Chino Hills High School to one of the Baseline League’s best. Coming off a big 31-21 win over rival Rancho Cucamonga, the Huskies (6-3) are fighting for playoff seeding with the regular season finale against Upland looming large. The winning ways executing the Huskies’ offense has brought next level attention to the three-star talent.

Nine games in, Medyn has filled the stat sheet covering 1,952 yards in the air with 16 scores against just three picks while rushing for a team-high 11 touchdowns. The quick release, strong arm, and wheels that moves the chains has brought offers from Arizona State, Cal, Colorado State, Indiana, Old Dominion, Oregon State, SMU, Texas A&M, and UNLV.

In an RNG exclusive interview, Medyn covers the breakout season with an update on his recruiting process.

Interview

What style of offense are you running with Chino Hills?

“We are a majority spread offense, mostly 11- and 10-man personnel. We are 50-50 with the run and the pass; about 20-25 attempts running a game.”

What are you seeing from different defenses this season?

“The majority in league has been 4-2-5 with Cover 1. They are manning us up on the outside; we are having to win in the slots.”

Based on the schemes you are going against, how is that helping you expand your skillset?

“When they bring pressure, I can tell. I can tell when the (line) backers are coming; they are all manned up across the board. I know my guys will win; I just have to put it in the right spot.”

What improvements in your game have you made so far this season over a year ago or even this summer?

“Week to week I am more and more confident in my arm and my abilities. The game is slowing down, and I am processing everything faster. Out of the huddle, I know what is going on. I am more confident in myself and the players around me.

“I can tell a difference in my arm strength this season. I am fitting the ball into tighter windows and making throws I wouldn’t have been able to make last season. I am getting faster and more confident with my legs. This year I am pulling away and making guys miss; I am getting better at that.”

If I wanted to watch game film with you, which game this season has been your personal best and why?

“I’d put on last week’s game verses Rancho (Cucamonga) or our one-score loss to San Clemente (35-28). We had complete games on offense in both and I was making the throws needed to be made. I was clutch in game-time situations.”

From what you have shown on the field this season, what feedback are you receiving from college coaches?

“Most of the time it is all about my arm. They say I have an impressive arm, and that I make it look easy. They like the way I move in the pocket. Even though I am not the fastest guy, they like how I can move in the pocket and extend the play.”

You have the nine offers, which programs are showing interest?

“Fresno State, San Diego State, UCF, TCU, Houston, SC, and South Carolina.”

Which teams are reaching out the most?

“SMU, Cal, and Fresno. I have a lot of interest in SMU and Cal; they offered early and have been contacting me the most.”

Do you have any recruiting visits coming up?

“Next week I am planning on going out to SMU and then down to San Diego State.”

Heading to Dallas, what do you want to see and/or do on your visit with SMU?

“I have been there a couple of times, but I haven’t seen a game there yet. They have a new stadium; I want to see the fans and the players and how they interact. I want to see how the coaches are on game day. I want to see the game-day life at SMU. I am looking forward to that the most.”
