Snoop Dogg’s Son WR Cordell Broadus Leaves UCLA Football Team
Written by Ryan Wright
All the hype and attention given to wide receiver Cordell Broadus throughout the 2014 high school football season leading up to National Signing Day came to an abrupt stop this week when the 4-star talent quit football.
Per BruinReportOnline, Broadus, the son of famous rapper Snoop Dogg, has not been a part of the Bruins fall camp and has not been in touch with the football coaches since Monday.
The 6’3”, 186 pound, wide receiver transferred in the offseason between his junior and senior year from Diamond Bar (California) to Las Vegas powerhouse Bishop Gorman so he could play with and against tougher competition in preparation for the collegiate level. Broadus had a Top 5 of UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, Oregon State, and Florida State before verbally committing to UCLA on National Signing Day. The commitment took place on ESPNU with his father by his side.
The hype around Broadus was pushed even further by ESPN with the series “Snoop & Son: A Dad’s Dream.”
In 2012 Broadus caught 38 passes for 513 yards with 7 touchdowns. During his junior campaign the productivity increased with 60 catches for 685 yards with 8 scores. During his senior season Broadus caught 39 passes for 602 yards with 11 touchdowns helping the Gales go 15-0 capturing a sixth consecutive Nevada state championship and a 2014 national state championship.
Per BruinReportOnline, Broadus will remain enrolled at UCLA but not participate in football. Reports have not indicated if there was a rift between UCLA and Broadus or if Broadus had just lost interest in continuing his football career.
*Updated statement from head coach Jim Mora regarding Broadus’ decision to quit football
“Cordell informed me yesterday that he has decided to pursue other passions in his life – in particular his love of film through his company Film School Productions. Cordell is an amazing young man with many talents, and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his degree at UCLA.”
The Bruins signed 19 recruits to their 2015 recruiting class turning in a Top 15 rated haul.

I guess football wasn’t his love. Good for him.
