The recruiting battles for four-star cornerback Troy Stevenson have been waging with extra intensity this spring. The Phillip Simmons (Charleston, S.C.) standout dropped his top 10 on March 12 and now has three official visits locked.
Holding 20-plus offers with interest coming in from South Carolina and Clemson, Stevens covered which teams are reaching out making him a priority.
“The teams reaching out the most are Virginia Tech, Georgia, Nebraska, Miami, Alabama has been reaching out more to me, and Maryland,” Stevenson said. “Those are the ones I can think of right now.”
An influential spring visit was taken to Miami.
“It was a great time,” Stevenson shared. “Their coaches showed a lot of love. They toured me around the campus, it was so great.”
Taking in a practice, Stevenson gave his thoughts on the Hurricanes’ defense.
“There was great competition,” Stevenson said. “They were running Cover 0 and Cover 1 and going man up on the outside, I was thinking, we run that stuff.”
The Hokies took care of Stevenson while on campus as well.
“That was great too,” Stevenson stated. “They toured me around. They showed me what they do around the campus and took me out to eat. It was a great time at Virginia Tech. I built a better connection with their coaches.”
The Cornhuskers dropped an offer in Stevenson’s lap on April 6, that could turn into a spring unofficial soon.
“I am thinking about going to Nebraska, but I have to take a flight,” Stevenson shared. “I am not sure about that one yet.”
Stevenson shared his interest in the Cornhuskers, “Our relationship has been great. We have been hitting each other up every day for the past three or four weeks; we have a great connection. I want to get up there to create a better connection.”
The plan for official visits was laid out.
“I am planning on taking three or two during the summer and taking the next three or two during the season,” Stevenson said. ” I’m not sure right now, but I know Virginia Tech, Nebraska, and Miami might be ones.”
Stevenson’s top 10: Miami, James Madison, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Penn State, Liberty, Maryland Boston College, Tennessee, and Georgia.
