What has already been a tumultuous season on the field for the Gamecocks continues on a rocky downward slide. One day after South Carolina (2-5) parted ways with head coach Will Muschamp seven games into his fifth season, junior cornerback Jaycee Horn decided to leave the team to focus on the NFL Draft.
From the moment Horn walked onto the field in Columbia he was an instant fit in the Gamecocks defense notching 10 starts with 11 games played as a true freshman. His sophomore season was a success turning in a team-high nine pass breakups along with 40 tackles. The SEC coaches selected Horn a third-team preseason All-SEC defensive back ahead of the 2020 campaign.
Horn was having another solid season compiling 16 tackles, a tackle for a loss, a team-high six pass breakups and was tied for the lead in interceptions with two.
Muschamp was relieved of his duties on Sunday after a 59-42 loss on the road to Ole Miss. Muschamp’s newly hired offensive coordinator, Mike Bobo, takes over as interim head coach staring down home games against Missouri and Georgia with a scheduled season finale in Lexington.
Various mock drafts have the 6-1, 200-pound, defender being a first-round draft pick ranging from a top-15 selection to No. 29.
