As South Carolina’s roster continues to undergo changes with first-year head coach Will Muschamp from the Steve Spurrier era, a couple more contributors from last year’s squad will not be back in 2016 with the announcement that defensive end David Johnson and cornerback Al Harris Jr. are no longer Gamecocks.
Muschamp released a statement reading “We wish them the best of luck” but gave no indication why either player was leaving the team, voluntary or otherwise.
Harris a junior, had 25 tackles, four pass breakups, and one tackle for a loss in 11 games played in 2015. Johnson, also a junior, had 20 tackles, two quarterback hurries, and 1.5 tackles for a loss last season.
There has been no immediate update where either player may land as transfer student-athletes.
