South Carolina Lands 2017 Top 10 CB Jamyest Williams out of Georgia

The Will Muschamp reach for top targets into other fertile SEC territories continued on Saturday with the commitment of four-star corner Jamyest Williams.
Williams grew into one of the more highly recruited players in the 2017 recruiting class regardless of position as a standout corner with Archer High School in 2015. With Williams on the roster, the Tigers went 11-2 with their all-around athlete showing out on both sides of the ball. Williams hauled the rock 192 times for 1,249 yards with 23 touchdowns and secured eight passes for 93 yards as a junior.
The Gamecocks could use Williams on offense but have targeted him as a premiere SEC shutdown cornerback. 247Sports rates Williams at the No. 8 overall corner in his class.
On April 28, Williams transferred from Archer to another nationally loaded squad, Grayson. Williams verbally committed to South Carolina during a nationally broadcasted airing of the Rams showdown against visiting IMG Academy (lost 26-7). The recruiting battle for Williams did not subside with a total of 49 offers on the table before committing to USC. The list of teams reads like a Top 25 in-season ranking with Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Notre Dame, Auburn, Cal, Duke, Georgia, Colorado, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Tennessee, TCU, Stanford, and Texas A&M.
South Carolina now has 21 verbal commits to their 2017 class. Of the 21, 12 are slated to play defense at the next level.
