BRADENTON, Fla. – There is no beating speed on the gridiron. Out of Bradenton’s (Fla.) Manatee High School, Bonshavior Bean Jr. has all sorts of speed. The 2024 prospect was part of a 4×1 relay team that placed third in state and Bean posted one of the track season’s top times in the 400. All of this transpired after Bean led the Hurricanes in receiving yards last fall.
Bean updated his offseason, “Spring went great for me. It started with track season; we went to state. We placed third in state in the 4×1. I came back, had a week of practice, and competed in our spring game scoring a touchdown. It went well.”
The Hurricanes’ track team was one of the Sunshine State’s best with Bean applying his athleticism.
“My 400 time was 48.7 seconds; that was one of the top times in the state, but I did not qualify for state,” Bean shared. “My 100 split was 10.5 and my open 100 was 10.9.”
The speed and productivity on the field is drawing next level attention.
“A couple of college coaches came by, I know UAB came by to see me, Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee and a few others I can’t remember right now,” Bean stated.
Pembroke, Shorter, and Alabama-Birmingham have offered. The Blazers may see Bean on campus this summer.
“I might take an unofficial to UAB over the summer,” Bean said.
The top-line speed will be displayed at college camps this month.
“I am going to Mercer, South Alabama, West Virginia, USF, Florida State, and Valdosta camps,” Bean shared.
The mission at each camp is simple for Bean.
“The goal is to go out there and perform, show that I can do everything that a college coach wants – outside receiver, slot receiver, I can play anywhere on the field,” Bean stated.
The Hurricanes got a team-high 466 yards from Bean off 27 receptions with three trips into the end zone last fall. Teams gambled getting the ball to Bean with four kick returns covering 164 yards.
