Mix in pure speed, some power, hands, and play-making abilities and you have Class of 2019 athlete McKel Broussard. Broussard had a breakthrough season as an all-purpose back/slot receiver during his junior year posting 451 yards off 80 carries with six trips into the end zone and pulled down 19 passes for 334 yards with four more scores going up on the board. The 6-0, 182-pound, Notre Dame High School standout has pushed his athleticism forward this offseason posting a 4.43 laser-timed 40-yard dash. The combination of Broussard’s abilities coupled with his 3.0 GPA has garnered top next level attention. An offer was extended this week by Florida Atlantic with Texas, UCLA, Arizona, Washington State, Utah, and LSU among the many showing interest in the Los Angeles area native.
In a Recruiting News Guru stylized catch-up interview, Broussard talked about his offseason workouts and recruiting process to date.

Interview
McKel, how did your track season turn out?
“It turned out not as well as I wanted, some nagging hip injuries slowed me down. But, I ran a 11.21 at the end of the season, still not as productive as I wanted.”
Which events did you end up running?
“The 100, 200, and 4×1.”
Which event was your best this spring?
“The 100 was, I was surprised. Usually the 200 is my best.”
With the time on the track, did you get a chance to run a 40-yard dash this spring?
“Yes. I clocked at 4.43 laser by my track coach.”
Wow. That’s great. Congratulations.
“Thank you.”
How have your spring workouts gone on the gridiron?
“They have gone pretty good; I’ve had A lot of them. I’ve worked out with KB3 Elite from Houston, my personal trainer, and with my team. I have done a lot of drills this spring working on my hand-eye coordination and conditioning.”
Where have you seen the biggest growth in your skillset?
“My hands; they have gotten a lot better. They were strong, but I am catching over people better and snatching it out of the air easier. My route running is crisp.”
You mentioned your hand-eye coordination and conditioning, what else have you been working on this spring?
“My speed, conditioning and stamina, I have to do a lot this year. I have been working on my strength too.”
How do the Knights look in practice?
“We look very good. I was surprised. We have a lot of young guys on the team this year, but they are stepping up. Our energy level is great. We are a lot stronger than I thought we would be.”
It seems like you lined up everywhere on the field but center in 2017. Based on spring practices, where all will we see you in 2018?
(Laughs) “This year I am playing free safety, slot receiver, and running back.”
Have any college programs come by Notre Dame to meet with you in-person or watch you practice this spring?
“Yes; a lot actually. Arizona, UCLA, San Diego State, Boise State, Air Force, Eastern Washington, New Mexico, and New Mexico State have all come by our school.”
Which other teams you did not just list out are showing recruiting interest?
“Texas, LSU, Washington State, and Utah are showing interest.”
A couple of days ago you received your first Division-I scholarship offer from Florida Atlantic, what was that moment like for you?
“It was a dream come true. As a football player, that is a goal. When I got that phone call, it was a relief. It also made me want to work even harder. It made me happy to earn the offer but it also made me want to keep working and grinding.”
How did the Owls offer you?
“Coach (Lane) Kiffin (head coach) offered me. He saw me perform at the QB Retreat (Steve Clarkson). After he saw me at the QB Retreat, he called me up and offered.”
What did Coach Kiffin tell you about your game when he offered?
“He said, “I like your route running, it is clean”.”
Which position did he offer you, at receiver?
“He offered me as an athlete and receiver.”
Do you have any unofficial visits coming up?
“I have planned visits to Arizona on June 21 and Rice on June 15.”
What has you excited about visiting Arizona?
“I am excited about the new coaching staff coming in from Texas A&M. I have been talking to them. I am going with Grant Gunnel (quarterback), I am excited for that as well.”
Do you have any college camps set for this summer?
“I am going to an APU (Azusa Pacific) camp on June 9, USC on June 10, a Rice camp on June 15, and to the Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta (Rivals).”
McKel, thanks for your time today and good luck at all the upcoming camps.
“Thank you.”
